Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, Wretch 32 and Jamie Cullum are all confirmed to take part in this year’s BBC Introducing masterclass.
In addition, Maverick Sabre, Friendly Fires, Magnetic Man and Frank Turner will also be involved with the special event, taking place on Thursday, January 19 at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and BBC Maida Vale Studios, London.
Now in its second year, the BBC Introducing Masterclass supports unsigned and undiscovered artists by giving them access to, and insights from, high-profile musicians and industry professionals.
This year, DJ’s from across the BBC Radio networks including Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, Radio 6Music, Asian Network and BBC Local Radio will come together with music industry professionals and artists to host a day of sessions, workshops and masterclasses for aspiring musicians.
The event will be streamed live online throughout the day, allowing musicians from all over the UK to get involved at bbc.co.uk/introducing with the added opportunity to catch up on the content via the BBC Red Button later in the month .
The day will be a mixture of intimate practical sessions covering everything from guitar techniques with Newton Faulkner, The Young Guns, Bernard Butler, Chantel McGregor and Marcus Bonfanti, DJ Techniques with Pete Tong and James Zabiela, recording and mixing tips and many more.
There will also be artist-led content where viewers will see key artists interviewed – these will include MistaJam talking to Magnetic Man and Wretch 32, Steve Lamacq in conversation with Friendly Fires, Jo Whiley discussing how to come up with a collection of songs with Jamie Cullum and an exclusive pre-recorded interview with Zane Lowe and Trent Reznor.
Huw Stephens will also host the Question Time session giving new musicians from across the UK the opportunity to speak directly with some big industry names. Jen Long and Twin B will also host a session with a panel of experts on how to get your new music out there via digital platforms.
Other industry names confirmed include Festival Republic’s Melvin Benn, David Haynes from Soundcloud, Radio 1’s Head of Music George Ergatoudis and founder of Mute records Daniel Miller.
DJ’s from across the BBC Radio family that will be hosting and leading sessions include Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Pete Tong, Tom Robinson, Bobby Friction, MistaJam, Tom Ravenscroft, Twin B, Charlie Sloth and Tim Westwood.
Jason Carter, Editor of BBC Introducing said: “After the huge success of the BBC Introducing Masterclass in 2011, we are delighted to be able to host the event for a second year at such legendary venues – steeped in music making history.”
“This year it will be a much broader musical spread, with BBC presenters across the radio networks, wider genres of music and even more senior industry figures across disciplines. I’m confident the day will provide some really useful practical advice for new up and coming musicians, both for those lucky enough to be there and for those who will be watching via the live streams,’ he added.
Full streaming details can be found below; all content will be streamed live on Thursday, January 19. All of the content from the day will also be available via the Red Button from 6am on Sunday, January 29 to 4am on Sunday 5th February.
